Hair Transplantation
Hair Transplantation
Hair loss is a very common occurrence. Normally the daily hair loss is 50-100 hairs per day but if it is more than that or associated with a bald patch or thinning of hair, it can be very distressing. There can be many
causes which can lead to loss of hair.
Hair transplant is the procedure that restores hair and gives self–confidence. Dr. Rajendra S Gujjalanavar practices latest techniques of hair transplant to give good result.
What is hair transplant?
In this procedure hair is taken from donor area (back of scalp) and transplanted to the area of hair loss.
Each hair graft has around two hair follicles.
Who are the candidates for hair transplant?
Hair transplant is the ideal procedure in both males and females who are suffering from chronic hair loss
and have a bald spot or area of thin hair.
What are the different techniques of hair transplant?
There are two different techniques: Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and Follicular unit extraction (FUE).
FUT or Strip Method is a technique in which a strip of skin from back of your scalp is removed which is regarded as safe zone. The hair grafts taken are then processed under high magnification. The area is then
closed with stitches. Scar is well hidden under hair and hair growth is even ensured through the stitch line as a special technique called Trichophytic closure is done.
FUE or Punch method uses a Motor that punches out hair graft from the back of the scalp and then
processed into follicles.
It is important to understand that both techniques have their pros and cons and a procedure is always customized according to an individual.
The important thing is to get it done from a certified plastic surgeon, as it involves key factors in technique like how to make the hairline, how to angulate hair and how to take out maximum follicles from a graft effectively. It is important that you discuss all these things while planning for a hair transplant which looks natural.
After hair transplant a bandage and hair cap is put and you can go home. Medications are prescribed. For initial few days there might be swelling in scalp and around eye area which resolves in one week.
How will be the recovery after procedure?
It is day care procedure. Avoid bending and keep head elevated by using two-three pillows underneath while asleep. It is advisable to do light work for a week and resume heavy work after that. Exercise can be
resumed after two weeks. Hair wash is to be done on second day gently with foam wash and no
scraping is to be done. Scabs can be washed under shower and not to be pulled.
When will I see the results
Transplanted hair falls off after one month of procedure. The hair begins to re-grow after a period of one or two months but the results of the procedure are appreciable after about 8-10 months. This hair would
be permanent.
Is hair transplant permanent?
Yes, the hair transplanted are permanent and like normal hair they can be trimmed or colored.
