Cosmetic surgery is a unique discipline in medicine aimed at improving the appearance through surgical and medical techniques. Cosmetic surgery can be performed on all areas of the neck, head, and body. Because the treated areas function properly but do not have aesthetic appeal, cosmetic surgery is not mandatory.
Plastic surgery is defined as a surgical specialty dedicated to the restoration of defects of the face and body due to birth disorders, traumas, burns and diseases. Plastic surgery aims to correct dysfunctional areas of the body and has a reconstructive nature.
Usually, surgeons use three types of anaesthesia, depending on the procedure:
- Local anaesthesia: It numbs the immediate area used for minor procedures.
- Local anaesthesia plus sedation: It numbs the immediate area and relaxes your mind and body.
- General anaesthesia: It allows you to sleep through the surgery.
The doctor may advise sleeping in a reclining position for one week immediately after surgery to minimize the collection of fluids in the face and eyelids. The surgeon will give you instructions about making and administering cold and warm compress. It will reduce bruising and swelling and will also promote healing.
At an average age of 41, most of the patients undergo cosmetic surgery. Procedures including liposuction, breast augmentation, dermabrasion and rhinoplasty (nose job) are common among younger patients while treatments including breast lift, blepharoplasty (eyelift), Botox® and facelift are more commonly opted by older patients. However, you can undergo the same according to your choice and need.
There are different degrees and stages of facial aging that can be caused by the natural aging process, heredity and lifestyle choices. Plastic surgeons have been trained to deal with all areas of facial rejuvenation. Facial lifting tightens and lifts excess skin on the face and neck. Additional procedures are offered to improve the aesthetics of the eyes, forehead, mouth, neck and chin. Minimally invasive endoscopic techniques are also suggested. Thin wrinkles on the face can best be treated with skin rejuvenation techniques such as laser reappearance, chemical peels or other skin care procedures.
